Waterloo/St. Catharines, ON – Nipissing Women's Hockey split their weekend road trip in Southern Ontario, losing to Waterloo but shutting-out Brock.
On Friday, January 16th, the Lakers travelled to Waterloo for a matchup with the Warriors.
The first period saw no goals scored for either side. The Lakers had one power play chance in the frame at 12:59. Nipissing did not convert on the chance. Waterloo had two chances on the power play in the period. The Lakers killed both penalties and skated to the dressing room tied at 0 after 20 minutes of play.
The second period again saw no goals scored for either side. Waterloo had one power play chance in the period, while Nipissing had two. Goaltender Allie Lehmann once again stood tall in her net, stopping all Waterloo shots on net and leading the Lakers to the room again tied at 0, this time after 40 minutes of play.
Nipissing opened the period with a power play chance, but once again the Lakers could not convert the opportunity to a goal. Waterloo had zero chance on the power play in the third period.
The score would stay tied at zeros until the 3:28 mark of the period, where Keiara Raitt broke the game open and putting Waterloo up 1-0. The Lakers would spend the rest of the period trying to respond and tie the game at one. The Lakers pulled goaltender Lehmann in the dying minutes of the period, but Waterloo would score their second goal of the game into Nipissing's empty net to secure a 2-0 win.
Allie Lehmann stopped 31 of 32 shots in the loss.
Then, Saturday, January 17th, the Lakers paid a visit to the Brock Badgers in St. Catharines, Ontario for a matchup.
The first period saw no goals for ether side. Goaltender Allie Lehmann, making her second start in as many nights for the Lakers, stopped all seven Brock chances on net in the frame. Brock had one power play chance in the first, that they did not convert on.
In the second period, Nipissing found the back of the net at 3:05 as Peyton Gabruck scored, assisted by Sara Stefanic. This goal would prove to be the game winning goal for Nipissing. The rest of the period saw no goals, and the Lakers would take a 1-0 lead to the room after 40 minutes of play
The Lakers looked keen on finishing this game with a win in the third period. Nipissing would double their lead at 14:59 when Jill Hennessy found the back of the net, assisted by Lana Duriez. Then, at 18:36, Abby Lunney potted an empty net goal to secure a 3-0 shutout win for the Lakers.
Nipissing goalie Allie Lehmann stopped all 28 Brock shots on goal in what was her fourth shutout of the season for WHKY.
The win and loss moves Nipissing to 7-7-4 on the season.
Women's Hockey is back at home this coming weekend, facing off with York University on Friday, Jan. 23 at 7PM at Boart Longyear Memorial Gardens. Then, Saturday, Jan. 24, the Lakers will face the University of Ottawa at 7PM to wrap up the homestand.
