Thunder Bay, ON – Lakers Men's Basketball took home an 86-84 win in Thunder Bay against the Lakehead ThunderWolves on Friday, Jan. 23.
Nipissing led the game 29-18 after one quarter of play. Lakehead responded by outscoring Nipissing by ten points in the second, 24-14. Nipissing led 43-42 at halftime.
In the third, Nipissing scored 24 to Lakehead's 19 to lead 67-61. The Thunderwolves made it close in the fourth quarter, outscoring Nipissing 23-19. The Lakers held on to take this contest 86-84.
Jean Rene Brutus Escalona led Nipissing with 18 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists in the win. Alvin Icyogere scored 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Chris-Evrard Malonga scored 12 and added 5 rebounds and 1 assist. Doug Awusu scored 12 points and added 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Jeziyah Excell-Johnson scored 11 points, 3 rebounds, and a team-high 10 assists for the double-double in the win. A well-balanced scoresheet for the Lakers.
With the win, Men's Basketball improved to 6-10 this season.
