Sudbury, ON – Lakers Women's Basketball scored a big win on the road against the Laurentian Voyageurs 77-64 on Wednesday, Jan. 28.
The Lakers and Voyageurs each scored 18 in the first quarter. In the second, Nipissing took a six-point lead, outscoring Laurentian 19-13 and taking a 37-31 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, Nipissing continued to build their lead, scoring 17 to Laurentian's 13. In the fourth, the Lakers got the job done, outscoring Laurentian 23-20 and securing a 77-64 road win.
Nicole Budd scored 22 points in the win, and added 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 steal. Dominique Bouchard scored 14 points and added 3 rebounds, and 1 assist. Taryn Gauthier scored 12 points and had 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal. Katelyn DeCook scored 10 points and added 8 rebounds, 1 assist, and a block.
The Lakers totaled 11 second chance points in the win and netted 16 points off of Laurentian turnovers.
The win moves Women's Basketball to 5-12 this season.
The Lakers are back in action Friday, Jan. 30 at 6PM when the Guelph Gryphons pay a visit to RJS Athletic Centre. Tickets are available at the door after 5PM. The contest will be broadcast live on OUA.tv.
