North Bay, ON – Nipissing Women's Basketball suffered a tough loss at home to the Ottawa Gee-Gees, 76-49.
Nipissing outscored Ottawa 19-10 in the first quarter. Sophie Milner scored a three-pointer to help the Lakers grow their lead. Nicole Budd scored free throws at the end of the quarter to set a new Lakers Women's Basketball record for most points scored in a single season.
In the second, Ottawa responded swiftly, outscoring Nipissing 26-9 and building a 36-28 lead at halftime.
In the third, Ottawa outscored Lakers 18-13. Taryn Gauthier led the Lakers with five in the quarter. Nicole Budd scored 4, and Katelyn DeCook and Dominique Bouchard each had one field goal. Ottawa led Nipissing 54-41 after three.
In the fourth, Ottawa was eager to put the game away and did so by scoring 22 to Nipissing's 8 in the final frame. Sophie Milner, Ella Bannister, Avery Walker, and Avery Miller each scored two points as the Lakers lost 76-49.
Sophie Milner led Nipissing with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 assist. Nicole Budd added 10 points, 2 rebounds, and 5 assists. Taryn Gauthier, Ella Bannister, and Katelyn DeCook each scored 6 points.
Nipissing scored 14 points off the bench and 22 points in the paint in the loss.
The loss moves Nipissing to 5-16 this season. The Lakers are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 14, at 4PM as the Carleton Ravens are the opponents.
