Kingston/Oshawa, ON – Nipissing Women's Basketball dropped two contests on the road this past weekend.
On Friday, Feb. 6, the Lakers traveled to Kingston for a matchup with the Gaels.
Queen's outscored Nipissing 30-16 in the first before Nipissing outscored the Gaels 15-14 in the second. Queen's led 44-31 at halftime.
In the third, Queen's scored 19 to Nipissing's 14, and outscored Nipissing by 7 in the fourth, 18-11. The Gaels took the win, 81-56.
Nipissing's Dominique Bouchard led the Lakers with 17 points and 4 rebounds. Katelyn DeCook scored 15 points and added 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Nicole Budd scored 14 points and had 3 rebounds and 2 assists in the loss.
Nipissing shot 34.6% from the field, 25% from three, and 83.3% from the free throw line. The Lakers added 21 points off turnovers, and 12 second chance points in the game.
Then, Saturday, Feb. 7, the Lakers looked to rebound from the loss with a matchup against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks.
Tech outscored Nipissing 12-9 in the first quarter before the Lakers responded, scoring 16 to Tech's 12 in the second to lead 25-24 at halftime. In the third, Nipissing outscored Tech 17-16. The Ridgebacks managed to come back and take the win, scoring 30 points in the fourth to secure the 70-63 victory.
Nicole Budd scored 20 for Nipissing and added 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Katelyn DeCook scored 12 and had 10 rebounds for the double double. Dominique Bouchard scored 10 and added 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
Nipissing shot 31.9% from the field, 28.6% from three, and 81.8% from the free throw line.
Nipissing had 12 points off the bench and 20 points in the paint.
The losses move Women's Basketball to a 5-15 record this season.
WBB is back in action with their final two home games of the regular season this coming weekend. Friday, Feb. 13, the Lakers host the Ottawa Gee-Gees at 6PM. Then, Saturday, Feb. 14, the Carleton Ravens will be the visitors at 4PM. Both games will be live on OUA.tv.
