In the span of three games, the Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team has gone from winless on the year to third place in the division and one of the hottest teams in the league.
The Lakers made it three in a row Friday night, scoring three straight goals on their way to a 3-1 win over the UOIT Ridgebacks in Oshawa.
The goal against is the first Nipissing has given up in the last three games.
UOIT opened up the scoring in the first period, taking a 1-0 lead and ending
Jackie Rochefort's shutout streak.
The Ridgebacks took that 1-0 lead to the intermission, as both teams fired eight shots on net.
From there it was all Lakers.
Nipissing outshot UOIT 18-11 and outscored them 3-0 in the final 40 minutes, including a shorthanded goal by captain
Carly Marchment that tied the game just around the midway point of the period.
After Marchment's goal,
Kaley Tienhaara would score the eventual game-winner.
Nipissing took a 2-1 lead into the final frame and iced the game when
Sam Strassburger scored to make it 3-1.
Nipissing is now 3-0 on the road, scoring eight goals and only allowing one, in contrast of their 0-2-1 record at home.
The Lakers will look to continue their winning ways Saturday in an early season showdown with the Queen's Gaels, who have yet to suffer a regulation loss.
The Gaels are a 4-0-1 so far this year, only allowing three goals in those five games, meaning Nipissing will have their hands full.
Game time for the battle between the Lakers (3-2-1) and Gaels (4-0-1) is set for 7:30 p.m. tonight in Kingston.
