LAKERS ATHLETICS: Nipissing University Athletics Celebrates Academic Excellence at Annual Awards Breakfast

125 Lakers Student-Athletes Honoured for Academic Excellence During 2024–25 Season

North Bay, ON — Nipissing University Athletics proudly recognized the outstanding academic achievements of its student-athletes at the annual Academic Achievement Awards Breakfast held on Thursday, December 4. This year, a program high 125 student-athletes earned the prestigious honour for achieving an academic average of 80% or higher during the 2024–25 academic year.

With 270 student-athletes competing across Lakers varsity programs, this accomplishment means that 46.3% of Lakers student-athletes excelled in the classroom while balancing the demands of high-level competition.

Among all teams, Women's Hockey led the way, with 20 student-athletes reaching the 80% benchmark—the highest representation of academic excellence across Lakers programs.

The top individual academic performance belonged to Rylee Traicoff of Women's Soccer, who achieved an exceptional 96% average, setting the standard for academic success among Lakers student-athletes.

The Academic All-Canadian and OUA Academic Achievement Award distinction is one of the highest recognitions a university student-athlete can receive. To earn this honour, student-athletes must maintain an academic average of 80% or higher while competing on a varsity team—a testament to their ability to balance rigorous academic and athletic commitments.

This year, Nipissing also included Men's Lacrosse, which competes in the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association (CUFLA). While CUFLA does not provide an academic achievement recognition to its participants, Lakers Athletics proudly celebrated their academic success alongside other varsity programs.

"Our student-athletes continue to demonstrate that success is not limited to the playing field," said Director of Athletics, Sarah Batley. "Their commitment to academics and athletics reflects the values of our Lakers community, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements."

The Academic Achievement Awards highlight the Lakers' commitment to fostering an environment where student-athletes thrive both academically and athletically. Nipissing University Athletics congratulates all honourees for their hard work and success.
