Entering the weekend, the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team was just one of a handful of OUA teams to not have a regulation loss under their belt.
Despite falling in the first two games of the season, the Lakers lost in overtime, earning them a single point. And from there, they won the next two contests putting their record at 2-0-2 heading into two more road games.
Unfortunately, the streak of games with a point ended Friday night against Brock, as the Badgers shutout the Lakers 3-0.
And Saturday wasn't any better.
While the game ended lopsided, the beginning - first 25 minutes - wasn't all that bad as the teams were tied after the York Lions opened the scoring in the first period to take a 1-0 lead to the intermission.
Early in the middle frame, Nipissing evened things up on
Joel Herbert's tally.
Jacob McDowell and
Brock Morrison picked up helpers on the goal.
From there, however, it was all Lions.
York would go on to score six straight goals, including three more in the period to make the score 4-1 after 40 minutes.
In the third, it was the same, as York added three goals for a 7-1 win.
Shots ended 43-34 in favour of York, who also entered the weekend without a regulation loss.
After five straight games on the road, Nipissing (2-2-2) will finally return home for a pair of games this weekend - Friday versus Guelph (1-4-0) and Saturday against Western (5-0-0).
