MEN'S SOCCER: LAKERS UNLUCKY IN 0-0 DRAW WITH RMC

Brian Doherty Photo
While they haven't had the offensive output they would like lately, the Nipissing Lakers men' soccer team is almost impenetrable.

The Lakers have only surrendered three goals in their past six games, as they have posted a 2-0-4 record during their unbeaten streak.

As of the time this story was posted, the Lakers currently sit in fifth place in the East Division, one point up on UOIT and four back of both Queens and Carleton.

Sunday, the Lakers dominated the play, chances and set the overall pace of the game, but were unlucky with a few shots.

Nipissing hit two posts in the first half on wide-open nets.

In the second half, they had a goal disallowed because the net was knocked out of position before the ball completely crossed the line.

The score, based on those chances, as well as a number of others, could have easily been 5-0 in favour of Nipissing.

Regardless, the Lakers earned a single point and pushed themselves closer to a playoff spot. As of now, they would face the Queen's Gaels in Round 1, but there are still six games on the schedule, so there is a lot to be determined in the next few weeks.

Nicholas Cirullo, despite not being very busy, was good when he had to be and recorded the clean sheet.

With just two more home games left on the schedule, the Lakers will host UOIT Saturday and Trent Sunday to wrap up their home schedule for the 2015 season.

Game times are set for 2:30 p.m.
