The Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team has been involved in six games this year that have ended in shutouts, and unfortunately, Saturday's decision was the second that didn't go their way.
Riding a streak of 5-0-1 in their past six, the Lakers hit the road to take on their northern rivals, the Laurentian Voyageurs in Sudbury, but much like the season opener for both teams, the Voyageurs escaped with a one goal victory, defeating Nipissing 1-0.
The lone goal came early in the third period as the Vees halted the Lakers hot streak that saw them jump into the top four of the OUA standings until the defeat Saturday.
Laurentian outshot Nipissing 32-22, with
Jackie Rochefort making 31 saves in the loss, while Voyageurs goalie Laura Deller kicked out all 22 she faced.
Even with the loss, the Lakers have still been playing some great hockey lately, going 5-1-1 after starting the year 0-2-1.
It's another quiet weekend for Nipissing, as they have just one game on the schedule, hosting the Guelph Gryphons Saturday afternoon.
The Gryphons currently sit tied for first place with the Queens Gaels, with 21 points.
They are on a five game winning streak and have suffered just two losses so far this season.
Following Saturday's game, the Lakers will hit the road for a pair of games to close out the first semester.
The Lakers will face Toronto on Friday, Nov. 27 and Ryerson on Saturday, Nov. 28 to wrap up the first half of the year.
But before that, they'll hit the ice Saturday at 4 p.m. at Memorial Gardens versus the Gryphons.
