It was a slow start that put the Nipissing Lakers men's volleyball team behind the eight ball and despite a solid second and third set, it wasn't enough for Nipissing to extend their winning streak.
The Toronto Varsity Blues grabbed a decisive win in the first set and took last night's match 3-0 over the Lakers, handing Nipissing their second loss in the past five matches.
Toronto took control right away, opened up a lead in the first set and won 25-16 which put the Lakers on their heels a little bit.
Nipissing bounced back in the second set and put together a much better effort, closing the gap, but it still wasn't enough.
Toronto claimed the second set 25-21 to go up 2-0 and put the pressure on Nipissing entering the third set, which would unfortunately be the final one of the match.
Nipissing gave Toronto all they could handle in the final set, but the Varsity Blues were able to hold on and claim the match 3-0.
Cam Branch led the Lakers with 12 kills.
Lyndon Sonego added six of his own, and
Warren Taylor chipped in with five.
Nipissing is back at Saturday night when they face the Ryerson Rams.
