Coming off a big comeback win just one day ago, the Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team did it again.
The Lakers picked up their fifth road win of the season and seventh overall, as they shutout the Ryerson Rams 2-0 Saturday night in Toronto thanks to an impressive effort by goalie
Jackie Rochefort.
Rochefort recorded her fifth shutout of the season as she made an outstanding 40 saves to lead Nipissing, who has now won seven of their last 10, going 7-1-2 in that time to put them in a fifth place tie with Waterloo.
The Lakers power play scored both goals Saturday night, with
Zosia Davis picking up her first goal of the season, set up by
Kaley Tienhaara, who had a strong weekend, earning three points.
The first period goal would be all the offence the Lakers needed, but they would add to their lead in the third period.
Kayla Carter was set up by captain
Carly Marchment, who like Tienhaara, had an impressive weekend earning a goal and two assists.
The two goals were more than enough for Rochefort, who was the story of the game, making 40 saves, including 17 in the third period to preserve the win and the shutout.
The Lakers wrapped up the first half of the year on a high note, with two road wins, where their record is an impressive 5-1-1.
Nipissing will hit the ice again in the new year, hosting both Toronto and Ryerson again, the first weekend OUA play resumes in January.
