It's easy to say, but harder to do – get off to a quick start and set the tone early.
Friday night, the Ottawa Gee Gees managed to do that and it was at the expense of the Nipissing Lakers, as the Lakers struggled early and suffered a loss in their season opener.
After putting up only 13 points in the first half, Nipissing fell by a final of 91-49 to the powerful Gee Gees, who used a balanced attack in the win.
Nipissing managed only 13 points in the first half and trailed 44-13 after 20 minutes of play.
Their offence picked up in the second half, as they managed to score 17 points in the third quarter and another 19 in the fourth, actually outscoring Ottawa, but it was too little too late.
The score was 75-30 after three and in the fourth, the Gee Gees managed to run out the clock on Nipissing, who was unable to climb back into the game.
Lakers newcomer
Kalil Langston led the offence for Nipissing, scoring 11 points and adding five rebounds.
Jordon Campbell added nine points, while
Joey Puddister chipped in with seven.
The Lakers are back on the court Saturday night when they face the Carleton Ravens, a team that opened up the season with a lopsided win over the Laurentian Voyageurs.
Tip-off is schedule for 8 p.m. in Ottawa.
