MEN'S BASKETBALL: LAKERS COME UP SHORT ON OTTAWA TRIP

Brian Doherty Photo
A night after a tough loss, the Nipissing Lakers knew they would have to pick up their game to compete with one of the OUA's best teams.

They managed to compete for three quarters, however, a cold start put them behind the eight-ball right off the bat, as they dropped their second game in a row, losing 102-67 to the Carleton Ravens Saturday night in Ottawa.

The Ravens managed to post at least 22 points each quarter and scored 58 in the first half, as they began the season 2-0.

The Lakers, who scored 61 points in the final three quarters, managed only six in the opening 10 minutes, forcing them to play from behind all night and their improved offence wasn't enough to catch up.

Jordon Campbell had 13 points and Wil Konybai added 12 for the Lakers, while Mike Angenent and Jordan Roberts each chipped in with eight points.

Nipissing is hoping that home court will be friendlier to the Lakers, as they welcome the York Lions and Queens Gaels to town this weekend for a pair of games at the RJS Athletic Centre.

Friday night, the Lakers will take on the Lions, who are 0-1 after a tight 70-66 loss to the Gaels, the Lakers opponent on Saturday.

Both opponents will prove to be a challenge to the Lakers and wins won't be easy, but Nipissing is hoping the combination of the crowd, playing at home and a bit more experience will pay off.

Both games are set for 8 p.m. tip-offs.
