GREAT EFFORT AND LATE PUSH NOT ENOUGH FOR LAKERS

Riding a two game winning streak, the Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team were looking to avenge one of their two losses on the year and their only defeat in the past five games.

The Gee Gees, who were undefeated coming in jumped out to a quick lead with a goal in the 12 th minute after putting one early pressure and keeping the Lakers on their heels.

The teams went back and forth for the next 15 minutes before Selena Innamorati, who scored her first goal on a penalty kick last weekend, hammered a loose ball to the top corner to tie the game.

Her shot came from well outside the 18-yard box and had both the crowd and Lakers bench on their feet.

The game stayed tied through to halftime and remained deadlocked until the 75 th minute when the Gee Gees struck again to take the lead.

Despite a late push and great pressure as time ticked away, the Lakers were unable to even things up and dropped the game.

Carlee Bennard was busy and very strong in net, but was tagged with the loss.

Nipissing (3-3-1) will look to bounce back in 24 hours when they host the Carleton Ravens at the Education Centre Field.

Kickoff is set for noon Sunday.
