LAKERS SOCCER HEADS TO THE NATION'S CAPITAL

It's another weekend on the road for the Nipissing Lakers soccer teams, as they head to the nation's capital to do battle.

The women's program will face the Carleton Ravens and the Ottawa Gee Gees, beginning Friday. The men's team will only play a single, taking on the Ravens Friday evening.

The women are coming off a 1-1 weekend, losing to UOIT, but defeating Trent to open the season.

The men had a solid start, going 1-0-1, tying UOIT and slipping past Trent to give them four of six points to kick off the 2015 campaign.

The teams will play this weekend on the road before their home opener, which is set for Sept. 12 in North Bay.

Women's Soccer looking to build off of win
After a shutout loss in their season opener to the powerful UOIT Ridgebacks, the Lakers did a great job of responding Sunday, earning their first win of the season.

Often the sign of a good team is to bounce back after a loss and put together a solid effort and take away positives – something the Lakers did.

After trailing 1-0, the Lakers scored three straight goal, including two by Kristen Farkas to grab a 3-1 lead as they hung on for a 3-2 victory.

Up next for the Lakers is a battle with the Ravens, a team that opened up their season with a 3-2 win over the Queens Gaels.

They used two second half goals to pick up the three points in their lone game of the opening weekend.

Game time for Friday evening's game is set for 3 p.m. at Keith Harris Stadium.

Saturday, the Lakers will travel down the road to Matt Anthony Field to battle the Gee Gees, who are coming off a 1-1 tie against Queens last weekend.

Despite it being early in the season, the Lakers, with points this weekend, can put themselves in a good spot moving forward and into a stretch of home games in the near future.

Game time for Saturday's matchup is set for 1 p.m.

Focus set on Ravens for Men's Soccer
After a very solid start to the 2015 season, the Lakers are looking to build on that as they head into the second weekend of play.

Picking up four points in two road games has the Lakers off to a strong start and with only two road games in the team's next 10 contests, they have a chance to really capitalize if they continue playing well.

The team earned a come-from-behind tie in their season opener versus UOIT and picked up a 2-1 win against Trent on the second day.

With just one game on the schedule this weekend, the Lakers were and are able to focus on just one matchup – the gritty Carleton Ravens.

The Ravens enter this weekend, where they'll play both Nipissing and Laurentian, with just one tie under their belts, a 1-1 draw last weekend.

The Lakers and Ravens had two intense battles last season, with the Ravens coming out on top, however, it wasn't easy.

This year, the reloaded Lakers are looking for some payback.

The lone game for the Lakers is set for 5:15 p.m. Friday evening in Ottawa.
