At the end of the day, it was a loss, but the Nipissing Lakers women's volleyball truly play a strong match when they face the Ottawa Gee Gees.
The Lakers picked up their first ever OUA victory over the Gee Gees two seasons ago, they have played them tough every single meeting, with today being no exception.
The Lakers fell in four close, well-played sets, including a momentum swinging third set, that the Gee Gees fought back to win.
All four sets were close, with the biggest blowout going to the Lakers in their 25-17 win in the second set.
That was a big bounce back from a tough 25-20 loss to kick things off in the opening set.
With the teams tied 1-1, the Lakers looked to take control of the match as they went on a run, scoring eight straight points to take a 19-18 lead late in the third set.
The teams continued to battle into the 20s, but the Gee Gees managed to outlast Nipissing and take home a tight 25-23 win to go up 2-1 in the match.
In the fourth, with the Lakers looking to extend things to a fifth set, the Gee Gees were able to close out the match, despite a strong push from Nipissing.
Ottawa eventually claimed the 25-19 victory and walked away with their fourth win in the past five games.
The loss was the Lakers' second in a row.
Annabelle Harvey led the Lakers attack throughout the match with seven kills and 11.5 points,
Tracy Hammerton had eight kills and 11 points,
Erika Lapierre added nine kills and 10 points for the Lakers and
Cassie Dobson also chipped in with seven kills and nine points.
Nipissing remains on their five match road trip, as they head down south to face the Windsor Lancers and Western Mustangs next weekend.
Following those two matches, the Lakers will wrap up the 2015-16 with three straight on home court.
