It was a tough night for the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team, as they took on their northern rivals, the Laurentian Voyageurs.
Looking to rebound after a loss Wednesday night, the Lakers were in Sudbury, but once again fell short of the win column, losing 5-1 to the Vees.
The Lakers once again peppered the opposition's net, firing 34 shots at Vees goalie Charlie Millen, who for the second straight game, kept the Lakers frustrated.
Laurentian was able to capitalize on their chances, scoring three goals before the midway point of the opening period, jumping on the Lakers and putting them against the eight ball quickly.
Down 3-0 after 20, Nipissing tried to fight back, but much like Wednesday, were not able to cut into the lead and allowed two more tallies in the second period and trailed 5-0 after 40 minutes.
Brock Morrison spoiled Millen's shutout late in the third period, with
Cody Gratton and
Mitch McNeill picking up helpers on the goal.
Finals shots favoured the Lakers 34-29, but the final score went the Vees way.
Nipissing, who has now dropped three straight, will try to right the ship on the road as they play their next three contests away from home.
It begins with a matchup against UQTR Nov. 5, followed by a trip to Toronto to face the Varsity Blue and Ryerson Rams.
The Lakers return home Nov. 18 and 19, when they host RMC and Carleton on back-to-back nights.
