Likely no one on the Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team thought they would go undefeated, but they didn't think their first loss would come after peppering 45 shots at the opposition's net.
The Lakers suffered their first defeat of the season this afternoon, losing 3-1 in St. Catherines to the Brock Badgers despite more than doubling the Badgers in total shots and surpassing their game total in the third period alone.
Brock used a goal each period and stellar goaltending to hand Nipissing the loss.
The Badgers finished with a total of 20 shots, while Nipissing had 45, including 25 in the third period along, but managed just one goal – a
Sam Strassburger tally to make the game 1-1 early in the second period.
The Badgers opened the scoring up in the late stages of the first period and took that one goal advantage to the intermission.
Strassburger tied the game on a power play early in the second, with
Bronwyn Bolduc earning the lone assists.
Just before the midway point of the game, the Badgers went ahead and midway through the third, would seal the win with their third of the game.
Jackie Rochefort took the loss making 17 saves, while Jensen Murphy stopped 44 in the Badgers goal, earning first star of the game.
The Lakers will look to bounce back quickly, as they face the York Lions Sunday afternoon at 2pm to complete this weekend's road trip.
Nipissing returns home, after two more games on the road, Nov. 18 and 19 when they face Guelph and Brock at Memorial Gardens.
