MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: LAKERS TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS VERSUS RMC

Brian Doherty Photo
It was all business for the Nipissing Lakers men's volleyball team Saturday afternoon versus the RMC Paladins.

Knowing they can't take the Paladins lightly, the Lakers took care of business in straight sets, winning 3-0 in impressive fashion.

The Lakers claimed the first set, 25-15 to set the tone for the match and despite a push back from RMC in each set, the Lakers stayed in control.

The teams were neck and neck until the Lakers took control midway through the set, with the score 12-8 Nipissing.

From there, they outscored RMC 13-7 and claimed the victory.

It wasn't very different in the second set, as the Lakers started to dominate with the score 8-8.

Even more impressive than the first, the Lakers went on a 17-3 run to close things out and go up 2-0 as they looked to wrap things up quickly.

Nipissing jumped out to a commanding 5-1 lead to begin things in the third set as they tried to put away the Paladins quickly.

RMC, as they always do, refused to quit as they climbed back into the set and trailed 11-6.

Nipissing regained control with a 17-10 lead and finished things off in style with another impressive run to seal the win.

The closest the Paladins would get from the technical timeout to the end, was seven points and the Lakers made sure the victory was never in question.

The Lakers were led by Cam Branch with 11 kills, Steve Wood had 10 and Lyndon Sonego had 7. Nathan Charron had 31 assists.

Nipissing improves to 4-1 on the season and will look to finish the semester in style Sunday afternoon.

They face Queens tomorrow at 2pm at the RJS Athletic Centre.
