Battling injuries, the Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team came up with a gutsy effort and a big win Saturday night in their final game before the Christmas break.
Down a handful of starters, the Lakers got an outstanding effort from goalie
Micaela Stutzki, contributions from everyone who hit the ice, some timely goals as they clinched their 10 th win of the season.
Bronwn Bolduc scored a pair of goals – one in the first and one in the second – to lead the Nipissing attack.
Bolduc now has seven goals on the season to lead the Lakers.
Her second goal put Nipissing up 2-0 at the time before Laurentian responded about five minutes later.
With the Lakers up 2-1 after 40 minutes, the teams traded goals in the third period.
Jade Gauthier found the back of the net for the eventual game-winner, as the Voyageurs would once again close the gap with a goal late.
Nipissing held on in the final minutes of the game for the victory.
Stacey Henshaw and
Sam Strassburger also hit the scoresheet, picking up assists on Bolduc's two markers.
Stutzki, making her first start of the season, made 37 saves for her second win.
She was busy, facing 33 shots in the first two periods, turning aside 32 of them through 40 minutes.
The Lakers are back in action in the New Year, hosting Queens and UOIT Jan. 6 and 7.
