It's far from time to panic, but the Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team's trip to Sudbury didn't go as planned.
The Lakers kicked off the Riley Gallo Cup and 705 Challenge Sunday against the Laurentian Voyageurs and came up on the wrong end of a 3-1 decision.
After a quiet first half with only a few chances either way, the Vees broke through to break the tie, opening up the scoring in the 36th minute.
The Vees took their 1-0 lead into halftime and six minutes into the second half, added their second of the game.
With both teams pressing late in the game, Laurentian would seal the victory with their third goal, this one coming at the 83 minute mark.
Nipissing broke the shutout bid with a late goal coming off the foot of
Selena Innamorati in the 85th minute, but it was too little too late, as the Lakers fell by a pair.
The goal was Innamorati's third in five games this season as she takes over the team lead for goals, one ahead of
Brittany Burns.
Despite the loss, the Lakers are in a good position, currently sitting in the final playoff spot.
With two home games coming up, there's a good chance to make a climb up the East Division standings.
Three of the next five games are at home for Nipissing, beginning with a pair this weekend, as UOIT and Trent come to town.
UOIT enters the weekend sitting in second place in the division with a 4-1-1 record, while Trent is ahead of only RMC, with just one win.
After starting the season 0-1-1, UOIT has rattled off four straight victories, while Trent is coming off a loss in their last contest.
In 2015, the Lakers went 0-1-1 versus UOIT, losing the season opener before earning a tie at home later in the year.
Nipissing was able to defeat Trent twice, winning 3-2 at Trent and 3-1 at home in North Bay.
Regardless of the past, or current stats, the Lakers are looking to earn important points this weekend.
Kickoff is set for noon both on Saturday, versus UOIT and Sunday versus Trent.
The games are scheduled to take place on the Education Centre Field, on Nipissing University campus.
