In wet, sloppy conditions, the Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team couldn't gain any traction against the nationally ranked UOIT Ridgebacks.
Both teams battled the weather, but when it was all said and done, UOIT managed three first half goals on their way to a fifth straight win.
On the other side, the Lakers dropped their second in a row, falling to 2-4-0 on the season so far.
UOIT built up early pressure with their speed, testing Lakers goalkeeper
Mykaela Volpe, who was making her first OUA start.
Volpe was the difference early on, as she held the Lakers in the game for the first 15 minutes.
Finally the Ridgebacks broke through and opened up the scoring, as Taijah Henderson scored her first of two goals on the day.
Henderson was in on all three goals, picking up two goals and an assist.
With a 1-0 lead, the Ridgebacks added another goal in the 29th minute to put them up 2-0 and in cruise control.
Five minutes before half, UOIT added their third goal of the game to pad their lead.
The second half saw a much quicker Lakers team, as they peppered the UOIT goal with chances and shots, but were unable to find the back of the net.
UOIT played a steady half and weathered the Lakers attack.
In the end, the late push wasn't enough for Nipissing.
The Lakers will get a chance to bounce back quickly, as they host the Trent Excalibur Sunday afternoon at Noon.
Trent is currently 1-5-0 and faced Laurentian Saturday in their first game of the weekend.
