The Nipissing Lakers men's basketball team has a knack for winning very exciting games and it's paying off.
The Lakers won another tight, intense contest Friday night against their Northern rivals, the Laurentian Voyageurs, with a 69-66 triumph on the road.
It was a last second basket by
Addy Ogunye that gave Nipissing the lead and they held on for the final few seconds to grab the win.
The Lakers actually erased a 16-point deficit and trailed 30-24 at halftime.
After a tight opening quarter that had Laurentian up two, the Voyageurs extended their small lead by four in the second, outscoring Nipissing 18-14.
They continued to have the advantage with a 20-18 third quarter edge and were up on the Lakers by a score of 50-42.
The Lakers had a monster fourth quarter – their best of the season – posting 27 points and erased that 16-point deficit to claim the victory and help their cause as they push towards the playoffs.
Justin Shaver had a big game, posting 15 points and 13 rebounds,
Marcus Lewis had 14 points and seven rebounds, while
Jaaden Lewis and
Jordon Campbell each chipped in with eight points.
Ogunye hit the big shot and posted six points overall during 10 minutes of court time.
Nipissing just had the single game this weekend, but will remain on the road and face Queens and York next weekend.
