First place – that's where you can find the Nipissing Lakers men's volleyball team if you're checking out the OUA East Division standings.
The Lakers made it four wins in a row, as they defeated the Toronto Varsity Blues 3-1, winning three straight sets for the victory.
After a slow start, Nipissing turned it on and took care of business to move into top spot in the East.
Toronto opened up the match with a 25-22 win to kick things off, taking control of the set with the teams tied 19-19 and making their way to the win.
Despite the close score, Nipissing wasn't thrilled with their start and it showed the rest of the way as they showed why they have only lost one match.
A second set win of 25-19, a third set win of 25-17 and they closed out the match in style, winning 25-13 to take the match.
Steve Wood played a key role in the final point in each of the final three sets and continues his very strong season as an offensive leader for the Lakers.
Wood led the attack Friday, picking up 14 kills and 16.5 points during the four sets.
Warren Taylor was strong in the middle, grabbing eight kills, while
Jack Peckham had seven and Cam Branch had six.
Nathan Charron was able to spread the offence around, earning 33 assists.
Nipissing will look to make it five wins in a row Saturday night when the host the Ryerson Rams at 8pm at the RJS Athletic Centre.
