Despite four players reaching the 10-point mark, the Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team came up short on the road Friday night.
The Laurentian Voyageurs grabbed an early lead and wouldn't look back, as they headed to a 69-49 victory over the Lakers to jump ahead of them in the North Division standings.
The Lakers dug themselves an early hole, as they trailed 6-2 early in the first quarter, but they battled back to even the game up and play tight basketball, although the Voyageurs pulled away at the end of the first.
Down 14-6, Nipissing was unable to mount a comeback in the second quarter, as they quickly found themselves behind by a score of 23-11 and finished the half trailing 28-16.
The teams traded baskets for the most part in the third, but Laurentian extended their lead by outscoring Nipissing 18-14 and headed to the fourth up 16.
Nipissing wasn't able to muster enough of an offence, even though they scored 19 points in the final 10 minutes, as the Voyageurs put up a game-high 23 points, sealing the victory.
Claire Abbott led the Lakers in scoring, posting 15 points,
Jamie Soffer added 13 and
Heidi Smith and
