With the season winding down, the Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team was in search of key points in the final road trip of the year.
Unfortunately, the Lakers came up short against the Trent Excalibur Saturday and the UOIT Ridgebacks Sunday afternoon.
Saturday, Trent scored twice in the first 26 minutes and held on for a 3-1 victory, while Sunday, UOIT needed just one goal to upend the Lakers.
The Excalibur found the back of the net to begin the scoring at the 18-minute mark to go up 1-0 and eight minutes later, made it 2-0 as they grabbed control early in the game.
Nipissing answered back as
Andrea Young continued her impressive season, scoring her eighth goal of the season to cut the lead in half before the halftime break.
Looking for the equalizer in the second half, the Lakers surrendered an early goal to go down 3-1.
From there, the Excalibur held off Nipissing and claimed the three points, sending the Lakers to the loss.
Jess Moran was tagged with the loss in net for Nipissing.
The next day, it was just a single goal that decided the game, as UOIT scored at the 68-minute mark to break a 0-0 tie and give the Ridgebacks the victory.
The Lakers did manage five shots on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net and now sit seven points out of a playoff spot.
Young had three of the team's five shots, while
Mykaela Volpe was strong in net, allowing just one goal, but was handed the loss.
Sunday's game was the last one on the road for the Lakers, as they now return home for the final four games of the season, beginning Saturday versus Toronto.
Game time is noon at Scollard Hall.
