The Nipissing Lakers lacrosse team was unable to pick up a win, but they certainly sent off their senior players with an impressive effort.
Against one of the top teams in CUFLA, the Lakers dropped two hard-fought contests, 15-14 in double overtime and 17-8 in a game that was closer than the score indicates.
Saturday, the Lakers put together a strong effort and held a number of leads throughout the game, but was unable to hang on in the end.
The Lakers led 3-1 after one and 7-5 at halftime and even increased that lead to 11-8 after three quarters, but Trent stormed back in the fourth, tying the game and taking the victory in double overtime.
The teams actually traded goals in the first extra period, but Trent outlasted Nipissing for the two points.
Scott Dominey led the way with five goals,
Nick Chaykowsky added three goals and two assists,
Alex DeGagne chipped in with three goals and an assists, while
Riley Sloan had two goals and Will Craig added a single.
Tanner Poole picked up four assists and
Tyler Goodchild had two helpers as well.
Sunday, Trent got off to a strong start, but Nipissing quickly fought back.
Down 4-2 after one, the Lakers took a 7-6 lead into the halftime break. It was the second half that decided the game.
Trent outscored Nipissing 11-1 in the final two quarters, coming away with their second win over the Lakers in as many days.
Chaykowsky, Poole and Dominey all had two goals and two assists, while DeGagne and
Keiran Peltier each added goals in the loss.
The Lakers will now finish up the regular season with two road games in Kingston as they face the Queens Gaels.
The playoffs will begin the following week, with matchups still to be determined.
