A slow start ended up being the downfall of the Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team Saturday night in Thunder Bay.
Nipissing scored 26 of their 42 points in the second half, but trailed 43-16 at the break and couldn't bounce back in a 74-42 loss to the Lakehead Thunderwolves.
Lakehead took advantage of Nipissing's slow start, as they led 20-9 after the first and were up 27 at halftime.
In the second half, the Lakers improved and outscored the Thunderwolves in the final frame, but it was too little and too late at that point.
With the loss, the Lakers drop to 1-2 so far this season.
Jamie Soffer and
Devanee Dewey each had eight points to lead the Lakers offence.
Nipissing is back in action next weekend, as they remain on the road to play Brock and McMaster.
