A great five-set match took place at the RJS Athletic Centre by the Nipissing Lakers against the Guelph Gryphons Saturday night at the athletic centre.
Everyone loves an evenly matched game and we had one that played through all five sets.
The match consisted mostly of point for point and a quick burst by the Gryphons in the fifth set to win a match.
It started off with Guelph scoring first. Nipissing retaliated.
Then the Gryphons took off, winning the set 25-19.
Showing the fans in attendance exactly how evenly matched they are, the next set resulted in the same score of the last except, reversed in Nipissing's favour this time.
Going into the third set the men were just as riled up as they were at the beginning of the match.
When skill is so even, the win comes down to what you put into it and it was clear both teams wanted it.
Nipissing managed to catch a break and ride with it winning the third 25-18.
Guelph was not willing to let this go as they picked themselves up going into the fourth.
The Gryphons managed to keep a slight lead for the majority of the game until the score was tied up 21-21.
Guelph managed to gain themselves another win 25-23 bringing us into the fifth set of the game.
In the fifth set, the Gryphons were quick out of the gates and led from the beginning.
They built up an 8-4 lead and extended that to 12-8 before claiming the win, 15-11, which gave them a victory in a thrilling match.
