Box Score The Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team made it three in a row Saturday afternoon, playing their lone game of the weekend.
The Lakers erased two one-goal deficits and used a strong third period to earn a 4-2 victory over the York Lions and three points, moving them into fifth place, with games in hand on everyone ahead of them.
Twice in the first period the Lakers trailed by one.
Down 1-0, the Lakers tied the game thanks to
Jetta Derenoski's first goal of the season.
Sam Strassburger picked up the assist and her first of two points in the game.
The Lions answered to go up 2-1, but again the Lakers responded – this time
Maria Dominico found the back of the net and continued her excellent season.
Kaley Tienhaara and
Robyn Degagne earned helpers on the second Nipissing goal.
After a scoreless second period, the Lakers secured the win, scoring twice in the third period.
Strassburger, who blasted the shot upstairs and Derenoski combined for the eventual game-winner, with
Taylor McManus grabbing the second assist.
And with about five minute left in the game,
Stacey Henshaw fired a point shot that made its way through everyone to the back of the net to provide Nipissing some insurance.
Molly Sipprell and
Brooklyn Irwin grabbed assists on the fourth goal of the game for Nipissing.
Jackie Rochefort picked up the win, coming on in relief of
Danika Ranger.
Nipissing outshot York 44-16 on their way to the win.
The Lakers remain on the road, finishing up the first semester of play this weekend when they travel to Windsor and Waterloo.
