It was a nice way to cap off a long road trip for the Nipissing Lakers men's volleyball team, as they earned their first win of the young OUA season.
The Lakers finished the weekend with a split, falling 3-0 to the Queens Gaels Saturday afternoon, before bouncing back for a win Sunday against RMC in straight sets.
Sunday, a slow start hurt Nipissing as they lost the match in three, to the Gaels.
Nipissing improved each set after a tough opening set.
The final scores read 25-12, 25-21 and 27-25 in favour of Queens.
Leading the way offensively was
Steve Wood with 17.5 points and Cam Branch chipped in with 8.5 as well.
Sunday, the Lakers made sure to salvage the weekend as they put together a solid match on their way to a victory.
Wins of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-19 pushed Nipissing to 1-2 on the season with a key, early matchup on the horizon Saturday.
Wood had another big match, picking up 17 points, while Jeremie Murray and
Warren Taylor each added nine points in the triumph.
Next up, the Lakers face Toronto at home Saturday night.
The match is set to begin at 8pm at the RJS Athletic Centre.
