Box Score 2 A tough road trip capped off the first half of the season for the new-look Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team.
The Lakers faced the Windsor Lancers and Western Mustangs on the road, but were unable to grab a win, losing 65-46 Friday night and 58-42 Saturday.
A strong first and fourth quarter weren't enough for the Lakers, as they struggled in the middle of the game and the Lancers capitalized.
Windsor led 16-14 after the first quarter and extended their lead to 28-22 at halftime.
They really took over the game in the third, outscoring Nipissing 21-7 and held a 49-29 advantage after 30 minutes.
The Lakers finished strong, outscoring Windsor 17-16 in the final quarter, but it wasn't enough.
Alexe Galipeau-Wilson led the way with 12 points, while
Heidi Smith and
Jamie Soffer added eight each.
An impressive three quarters weren't enough, as the Lakers dropped a competitive game to close out the semester in London.
Leading 40-38 after three, Nipissing couldn't close out the game and Western poured it on late, stealing the victory thanks to a 20-2 fourth quarter.
The Lakers trailed 15-13 after one, cut into the lead and were only down 26-25 at halftime.
A strong third quarter had Nipissing in front, 40-38 heading into the final 10 minutes, but they couldn't lock down the victory.
Western was unstoppable in the fourth, edging the Lakers.

Maeve Therriault had 14 points to lead the way, while Galipea-Wilson chipped in with five points and 12 rebounds in the loss.
The Lakers are back on the court Jan. 5 and 6 to resume the 2017-18 season.
