Women's Basketball
Opponents – Friday vs. Guelph Gryphons, Saturday vs. Lakehead Thunderwolves
Breakdown
Coming off a heartbreaking loss to the Lions, the Lakers will look to get into the win column this weekend, facing two teams who are having their own struggles this season.
Nipissing has hung around enough games, but has been unable to make that final push to complete the comeback, or hold on to secure the win.
They have an opportunity to finish their home schedule in style, as they have three straight home games ahead of them, before finishing the season on the road.
A quick start will be huge in both matchups this weekend.
Keys to Victory
Playing a consistent, full, 40 minute game.
It's easier said than done, but during the season, there have been a few lulls in the Lakers game which has come back to haunt them.
If they can find a way to put together four complete quarters, they should be able to at least come away with a split, maybe a sweep if they can get the jump on both opponents.
Players to Watch
Michaela Branker – Branker has had some of the team's best games this season and she's averaging over five points per game this year.
She's hit double-digits three times this year, but has put in key minutes regardless of how many points she's finished with.
A breakout game with a favourable matchup could be on the horizon for Branker.
Jamie Soffer – Her strong efforts and grit at both ends of the court have been evident all season and with another solid effort this weekend, the Lakers could be in position to come away with victories.
Soffer has had three games with double-digits in points and three games where she's hit double-digits in rebounds, showing her versatility.
A potential double-double would give the team a boost.
