Opponents – Friday vs. Laurier Golden Hawks, Saturday vs. Waterloo Warriors
Breakdown
The Lakers will be looking to heat up again and return to their early season form, which saw them sprint to a 10-1-1 first semester record.
Battling injuries since, they are 3-2-1 in the New Year and with just six games to go, a lot is still to be determined.
Facing Laurier (3-12-3) on Friday night, it's an important game to pick up three points, as the Golden Hawks have hit some tough times.
In their first meeting of the season, the Lakers came away with a 3-2 victory on the strength of three straight goals to complete the comeback.
Against Waterloo, the Lakers grabbed a lead and added an empty-netter for a 3-1 win earlier in the season on the road.
Another six point weekend would be huge for the Lakers, as they attempt to chase down Guelph for top spot in the OUA.
Currently they are seven points back with a game in hand with one meeting still on the schedule, on the last day of the season.
Keys to Victory
Special teams are always key, but maybe more so for the Lakers, who are ranked second in penalty minutes, but they do have the fourth best penalty kill and are tied for third in shorthanded goals.
Limiting their times shorthanded and improving what could be a deadly power play will go a long with to gaining six points.
Players to Watch
Bronwyn Bolduc – The third year forward is one goal away from the single season Lakers record, so look for her to find the back of the net. Maybe more than once.
Taylor McManus – The second year defender has been able to combine solid play in her own end with a strong offensive year and during her power play time, has been able to contribute from the blueline.
