If anything, the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team is going out with class and some real determined efforts.

A night after a tough 2-1 shootout loss to the top team in the division, the Lakers put together another strong effort against the Ottawa Gee Gees in their season finale, but fell short, losing 3-2

A low scoring affair saw just two tallies through 40 minutes, with Ottawa scoring a goal in each of the first and second periods, as they came away with the two points.

Nipissing battled and for the most part, controlled the pace in the second period, but were unlucky and in fact, were unfortunate on both goals against.

Talor Joseph was solid in net, but was plagued by the two tough bounces that got through him.

He finished with 29 saves on the night and was tagged with the loss.

Ottawa struck early in the third, scoring just 20 seconds in to put the game away despite a late push by the Lakers.

Colin Campbell would score six minutes into the period to cut the Lakers deficit to two, as they trailed 3-1. The goal was unassists and his team-leading 14th of the year.

Two minutes after Campbell's tally, Craig Campbell scored to once again dig into the Ottawa lead.

The goal put Nipissing behind just one and was assist by Sam Gleason and Mitch McNeill.

Two straight goals and a late push weren't enough, as the Nipissing came up a goal short in their season finale.

Final shots were 32-26 in favour of Ottawa

Nipissing finished the season with an 8-18-2 record, which put them in ninth place in the OUA East Division, which had two of the top three teams in the OUA, and a few in the USports top-10.
