After a bit of a mid-season slump, the Nipissing Lakers men's volleyball team has bounced back in a big way and it was earned them a spot in the playoffs.
After losing four straight, the Lakers have responded with three straight victories, including two this past weekend, which has earned them a spot in the OUA Playoffs for the first time since joining the OUA.
Saturday, the Lakers swept the RMC Paladins, winning 25-18, 25-20 and 25-22 to inch closer to the post-season.
Cameron Branch and
Steve Wood each picked up nine kills in the win, while
Warren Taylor added seven for Nipissing.
On Sunday, the Lakers made it official, as they got by the Queens Gaels in three straight sets, winning 25-22, 25-23 and 25-19.
The Lakers had a strong, balanced attacked in Sunday's win, as Branch picked up 10 more kills,
Lyndon Sonego added eight, Wood had seven and
Jack Peckham earned six.
With an impressive weekend, the Lakers can finish no lower than third place, but can move up to second if they win one of their matches this weekend at home, as they close out the regular season.
With a win, Nipissing will tie Ryerson in terms of wins and points, but will jump them due to the tie-breaker situation. And with two wins, they'll move into sole possession of second place and will host a quarter-final game.
To close out the regular season, the Lakers will host the Western Mustangs Friday night at 8pm and the Windsor Lancers Saturday.
Both matches will be at the RJS Athletic Centre.
