The Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team didn't waste any time getting back into the win column.
Coming off a loss two weeks ago, the Lakers responded in a big way, shutting out the visiting Laurier Golden Hawks Friday night at Memorial Gardens.
On the strength of goals by
Janica Vossos and
Kaley Tienhaara, along with a perfect performance by goalie
Jackie Rochefort, Nipissing picked up their 14th win of the season.
All the Lakers offence – and all they needed – came in the first period.
Vossos scored the eventual game winner at 13:48 to give Nipissing the 1-0 lead, which turned out to be enough in the end.
The goal was Vossos' first of the year and
Stacey Henshaw, along with
Zosia Davis picked up assists on the goal.
Less than five minutes later, Tienhaara potted her fourth goal in the past four games to make it 2-0.
Veterans
Brooklyn Irwin and
Laura McKenzie earned helpers on the insurance goal for the Lakers.
While she wasn't busy, Rochefort was perfect, making 14 saves to pick up her third shutout of the season and 33rd win of her career.
Nipissing will look to make it a perfect weekend when they host the Waterloo Warriors at 4:30pm Saturday.
