There is very little room for error in OUA soccer and while there were very few errors, the Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team still found themselves on the wrong side of a 3-1 decision.
A strong 90 minute effort came up short against a strong Queens Gaels team, as the Lakers dropped their home opener this afternoon at Scollard Hall.
The teams played even for the most part, but it was Queens who managed to open up the scoring, finding the back of the net in the 28th minute.
Just minutes before halftime, the Gaels extended their lead and made it 2-0 and entered the break in control.
A solid start to the second half saw the Lakers climb back into the game, with both their play and pace.
They capitalized on a chance in the 52nd minute when
Madison Logan put home a loose ball after a scramble in the Gaels crease.
Unfortunately, the Gaels would add another goal and seal the victory just over 15 minutes later to put the game out of reach.
Mykaela Volpe was solid in net, but is tagged with the loss.
The Lakers drop to 1-4-1 on the season and will look to rebound Sunday afternoon when they host the RMC Paladins, who took on Laurentian Saturday.
Game time is set for noon at Scollard Hall.
