It was a tough task ahead of the Nipissing Lakers lacrosse team, as they hosted their first two home games of the season.
The opponent was the undefeated Bishops Gaiters, who are a perfect 3-0, having scored 60 goals while allowing just 17 through the first two weekends of the season.
The Lakers couldn't keep up with the Montreal based school, as the Gaiters claimed wins of 23-7 Saturday and 21-5 Sunday.
The shorthanded Lakers struggled in the first half of Saturday's game, finding themselves down 12-2 at halftime.
Despite and improved second half where they scored five times, the Gaiters were too much and walked away with the win and the two points.
Scott Dominey led the way with three goals and two assists, while Tanner Pool had a goal and two assists, Pat Fitzgerald and
Kieran Peltier each added a goal and an assist and
Jack Drinkwalter scored as well.
Sunday, looking for a bounce back, the Lakers got better, but still couldn't keep pace with a very deep Gaiters team.
Shorthanded to begin with and hitting the field after a quick turnaround, the Lakers dropped their fourth game of the season.
Once again, a slow start from Nipissing had them behind the eight ball right away, down 7-2 at the half.
The Gaiters took control in the third, adding to their lead in a big way and in the fourth, they sealed the win.
Dominey recorded this second consecutive hat-trick, while
Alex DeGagne scored twice and Pool picked up three assists in the loss.
Nipissing is now 1-4 and back in action this weekend when they head to Ottawa to take on the Carleton Ravens Saturday afternoon.
The team returns home for a pair of games against Ottawa and Carleton, as part of Nipissing's Homecoming on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
