A late push wasn't enough for the Nipissing Lakers lacrosse team, as they dropped a tight contest Sunday afternoon in Ottawa.
The Lakers, who trailed 5-3 at the half, scored five times in the second half, but it wasn't enough as the Carleton Ravens had built up a big enough cushion.
The teams traded goals in the opening quarter, but in the second, the Ravens pulled ahead, a lead they wouldn't surrender.
The advantage was extended in the third quarter, as the Ravens built up an 8-4 lead after three periods.
Nipissing fought back, outscoring Carleton 4-2 in the fourth, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback, as they fell to 1-5 on the season.
Scott Dominey led the way with five points – two goals and three assists, Tanner Pool had three goals, while Sam Rooney,
Nick Chaykowsky and
Riley Sloan added singles.
Looking to bounce back, the Lakers will host a pair of games this weekend.
Saturday, as part of Nipissing Homecoming, the Lakers welcome the Ottawa Gee Gees to town for a 7pm matchup at Veterans Field.
On Sunday, a rematch with the Ravens will take place, as the teams hit the field at 4pm, also at Veterans.
