If today's game was any indication of the rest of the season, the Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team are headed to a strong finish to the year.
The Lakers scored a big 2-0 win over the Carleton Ravens today at Scollard Hall, making it two wins in their past three games, putting them within striking distance of the post-season.
Andrea Young led the way with a goal an assist, while
Mykaela Volpe was perfect in net, recording a win and a shutout.
The teams showed off their speed and skill early, but it was the Lakers who would strike first, scoring in the 25 th minute.
Young settled down a loose ball and made no mistake burying her team-leading, seventh goal of the season.
The tally turned out to be the game-winner – her second of the season – as well.
The score remained the same until late in the game when
Madison Logan sealed the victory for Nipissing, hammering home a shot from the wing.
Young and
Delaney Borsato picked up helpers after great ball movement to push things forward.
After dropping a few games in a row, the Lakers have now picked up six of their past nine points and sit just four points out of a playoff spot.
And they have games in hand on Ryerson, whom they're chasing in the standings.
The Lakers are back on the field Sunday at noon, hosting the Ottawa Gee Gees, who sit in second place in the East Division.
It will be a tough task, but also a great opportunity for Nipissing to make up some ground on the division.
The game will be once again played at Scollard Hall.
