The Nipissing Lakers men's soccer team made the most of their trip to Kingston, taking on the RMC Paladins and Queens Gaels.

Despite finishing with a 1-1 record, the Lakers proved they can win a tight game and hang tough with a strong OUA squad.

Despite dominating the game for the most part, the Lakers needed a late goal from Jack Collins to earn the three points.

The goal game with just five minutes remaining in regular time.

Midway through the first half, William Tsilkas scored his first of the season, giving Nipissing a 1-0 lead, an advantage they took in the half.

RMC responded early in the second half, tying the game at one apiece, setting the stage for Collins.

Nicholas Cirullo wasn't busy, but did what he had to, seeing just one shot get by him through 90 minutes.

In the second game of the weekend, against an always strong opponent, the Lakers fought hard in a physical battle.

Nathan Zak opened up the scoring just give minutes into the game, giving the Lakers an early kickstart.

Unfortunately, just a minute later, Queens tied things up.

With the teams even at the half, the Gaels took over in the second half, scoring twice within 12 minutes to take the lead.

The game-winner came in the 65 th minute and the insurance marker found the back of the net at the 77-minute mark.

Achuthan Shanmugaratnam was busy and strong in net, but was tagged with the loss.

He saw a total of 16 shots directed his way.

Now sitting with a 1-3-0 record, the Lakers will head to Sudbury to take on the Laurentian Voyageurs in the first weekend of the 705 Challenge Cup.

Kickoff is set for 2:15pm at Laurentian Field.
