MEN'S BASKETBALL: LAKERS COME UP EMPTY IN OTTAWA

The journey back to the playoffs for the Nipissing Lakers men's basketball team got a little bit more difficult after this past weekend.

The Lakers fought hard, but dropped two contests this weekend in our Nation's Capital, losing 70-59 to the Ottawa Gee Gees and 94-66 to the undefeated Carleton Ravens.

Friday night, it was a tough second quarter that eventually came back to bite the Lakers, as they were outscored by 11 and were unable to climb back into the game.

After being tied 17-17 after 10 minutes, Ottawa took control in the second quarter.

Trailing 34-23 at the half, the Lakers deficit grew in the third and they trailed 55-39 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

Nipissing did manage to outscore the Gee Gees in the fourth, but the deficit was too large for them to comeback.

Marcus Lewis led the way with 14 points and Jaaden Lewis added 11, while Jordan Roberts chipped in with seven.

On Saturday, the Lakers looked for an upset of the undefeated Ravens, but a slow start put Nipissing behind the eight-ball and they were unable to recover.

The Lakers found themselves in a 22-7 hole after the first and couldn't dig their way out.

Nipissing picked up their game in the second quarter, but were still looking a 46-29 halftime deficit in the eye.

Carleton extended their lead in the third quarter and held a 72-47 lead after three quarters.

The Lakers pushed in the fourth, but weren't able to make up enough ground and came out on the wrong end of the decision.

Marcus Lewis once again led the way, scoring 21 points, joined by Jaaden Lewis and James Murray who each had 12 in the contest.

The Lakers remain on the road, taking on York and Queens this weekend.
