Two games, two solid efforts, but no results for the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team while on the road.
The Lakers hit the road, but came out on the wrong end of a 4-3 decision to the Queens Gaels Friday night and a 3-0 final to the UOIT Ridgebacks Saturday night.
Friday night, goals from
Lucas Brown,
Dylan Staples and
Danny Desrochers, two assists from
Matt Donnelly and 31 saves from
Brent Moran wasn't enough, as the Lakers dropped a tough one-goal decision.
Saturday night, despite firing 32 shots towards the UOIT net, the Lakers came up short and suffered their second loss of the weekend.
Domenic Graham was impressive between the pipes, making 39 saves in the loss.
With those two games behind them, the Lakers focus turns to a huge weekend at home where they host UOIT in the second half of a home-and-home and the RMC Paladins, in a key matchup.
Nipissing currently sits nine points behind UOIT and five up on RMC in the OUA East Division playoff picture.
The Lakers faces RMC twice before the end of the season, along with Laurentian twice, UOIT and Queens.
With key points on the table this weekend, Nipissing is looking to lock down a spot in the post-season after missing the playoffs for the first time in the program's history last year.
Their cushion sits at five points over Laurentian and RMC and three on UQTR, who currently holds down eighth place.
Wins this weekend, or even points, will go a long way for Nipissing.
Before they face RMC on Saturday in the annual Military Appreciation Game, the Lakers will host the Ridgebacks Friday night at Memorial Gardens.
Puck drop is 7:30pm both nights.
