Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 There was still a lot to be determined entering the final weekend of play for the Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team.
While they have clinched a spot in the playoffs, their seed was still up in the air and while they didn't pick up a win, the single point they earned was enough to earn them fourth place and a home playoff date.
Saturday, the Lakers fell 2-1 to the Toronto Varsity Blues and on Sunday, Nipissing and the Ryerson Rams played to a 1-1 draw.
In the first game of the weekend, the Lakers fell behind 2-0 before scoring their lone goal late in the game.
Toronto scored just before halftime and added their second at the 76-minute mark before
Abby Wroe found the back of the net in the dying minutes of the game.
A late push wasn't enough for Nipissing, however, as they dropped the contest by a goal.
Mykaela Volpe finished with three saves, while Nipissing fired seven shots at the Toronto net.
In the regular season finale, the Lakers earned the single point they needed to secure a home playoff date, finishing in a tie with Ryerson.
Andrea Young scored just before halftime to give Nipissing the lead, but Ryerson replied in the second half to even things up.
That was all the offence, as the teams each gained a point.
Jess Moran was solid in net, making seven saves to finish the season with a 2-0-2 record.
Nipissing managed just one shot on goal, but fired four towards the target.
Up next, the Lakers will host a post-season game on Wednesday night at 6pm versus UOIT.
