A near perfect road game earned the Nipissing Lakers men's soccer team a playoff victory Wednesday night, defeating and eliminating the Queens Gaels.
The Lakers needed just one goal as they held off a late charge by the Gaels to advance to the second round of the OUA Playoffs and will now face the Carleton Ravens Sunday afternoon.
Nipissing's lone tally and the game-winner came off the boot of the team's leading goal-scorer,
Ryan Roy.
Roy found the back of the net at the 33-minute mark and his goal stood up for the final 60 minutes of the contest to send the Lakers through.
Andrew Johnstone recorded the clean sheet, finishing with four saves, while Nipissing managed two shots on goal, but directed a handful towards the net.
The win comes in the team's first playoff appearance in three season, after missing the post-season in 2017 and 2016.
Nipissing will now move on to face the division's top team and the nationally ranked Carleton Ravens.
The quarter-final game is set for Sunday afternoon at 3pm in Ottawa.
