The Nipissing Lakers lacrosse team has officially advanced to the CUFLA Playoffs, finishing the season on the road with a split.
The Lakers defeated the Ottawa Gee Gees 11-10 Saturday night before coming up short against the Queens Gaels, 14-11, Sunday afternoon.
With the 1-1 weekend record, the Lakers finished 5-5 on the season, fourth place in their division and will hit the road for Round 1 of the post-season.
In their victory, the Lakers controlled the middle of the game to edge Ottawa.
After trailing 4-2 after the first quarter, Nipissing outscored Ottawa 7-4 in the second and third quarters and held on in the fourth for the win.
Tanner Poole led the way with seven points,
Tyler Goodchild had three goals and five points and
Scott Dominey,
Sam Rooney and
Will Craig all had a pair of goals.
In Sunday's contest, the game was tight from start to finish.
Nipissing trailed 4-3 after one and 7-6 at halftime before the Gaels extended their lead in the third quarter.
Nipissing trailed 10-7 after three and while they scored four goals in the fourth, Queens matched the offensive output and hung on for the victory.
Goodchild had another big game, scoring six goals and seven points, while Dominey added two goals, Craig had two and
Jack Drinkwalter chipped in with one.
With the regular season done, the Lakers will now focus their attention to the playoffs, which begin next weekend on the road.
