A great season came to an end Friday afternoon for the Nipissing Lakers lacrosse team.
After qualifying for the Baggataway Cup thanks to a playoff victory on the road at Queens, the Lakers suffered an 18-4 loss to the powerful Brock Badgers in the quarter-finals.
Without their top two scorers, the Lakers were in tough against the Badgers who had finished the regular season with just one loss.
Nipissing was led by fourth-year veteran
Sam Rooney's two-goal performance, with fourth-year goalie
Andrew Wood adding 18 saves in the loss.
Brock came out ready to play, getting out to a 6-0 lead after the first quarter.
The Lakers responded though, breaking even with the Badgers in the second quarter thanks to a pair by Rooney.
Brock held an 8-2 lead at halftime.
Brock would add 10 more goals in the second half, with the Lakers managing just two.
Tyler Goodchild scored in the third quarter, while
Mark Smydo potted one in the fourth, but it wasn't enough as Brock eliminated Nipissing.
The Lakers had a tremendous season, however, finishing 5-5 and earning their way to the championship weekend.
The future looks bright for the Lakers program.
