Box Score The Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team is close. So close.
The Lakers, who dropped to 0-2 on the season, pushed the number 12 team in the country and gave them all they could handle, but came up short by a final of 79-61.
And it was a slow start that did the damage.
Nipissing struggled early in the game and trailed 24-12 after the first quarter of play.
In the second, it was more of the same as Lakehead extended their lead heading into halftime by outscoring the Lakers 23-14 and leading 47-26 after 20 minutes.
In the second, it was a different story, but the deficit was too much to erase.
The Lakers bested Lakehead 20-16 in the third quarter, cutting into the Thunderwolves' lead.
In the fourth, Lakehead sealed the win by edging Nipissing 16-15 and locked up the 18-poiint victory.
Alexe Galipeau-Wilson led the Lakers offence with 22 points, while
Jamie Soffer and
Angeline Campbell each had eight in the game.
Nipissing hosts a pair of games next weekend; Friday versus McMaster and Saturday against Brock.
